Omitting Parts of a Stamp

Sometimes we want to use part of a stamp only.  In the card above, I have used the cupcake stamp but omitted the dots in the icing and the words in the main body.  One way to do this is to ink up the stamp as per normal, and then carefully remove the ink from the parts you don't want using a wet wipe.  You do need to thoroughly remove the ink otherwise it will still stamp as a lighter shade.  The way I omit it to just ink up the part of the stamp I need using either a stampin' spot or a stampin' write marker.  The markers give greater control and allow for multicoloured images by colouring directly on the rubber exactly as you would like the stamped image to appear, before actually stamping.  The step to remember is to re-moisten the ink on the rubber by "huffing" or breathing on the stamp (as though you are trying to fog up a window), just before stamping onto your cardstock.  

I use the side of the brush tip rather than the end to avoid damaging the nib.  Here's the recipe and method for the card shown above:

Cardstock:  Blushing Bride, Concord Crush, Whisper White

Ink:  Concord Crush Stampin' Write marker, Poppy Parade SW marker, Pear Pizazz SW marker, Blushing Bride SW marker

Stamps:  Simple Birthday Thanks 115964 $33.95

Acc:  Blushing Bride 1/2" poly stitched ribbon, Dazzling Diamonds, Paper Crimper, Hodgepodge Hardware, Perfect Polka Dots EF, Champagne Mist shimmer paint

I used the Concord Crush marker to ink the lower cupcake wrapper and stamped that on to concord crush cardstock then cut it out, leaving an allowance at the top for the icing to be adhered to.  I inked the icing portion only and stamped that onto Blushing Bride and cut that out.  I inked the cherry and stamped that onto Whisper White cardstock, coloured it in with Poppy Parade and Pear Pizazz markers, and cut it out. 

I crimped the cupcake base in the paper crimper just like a real cupcake wrapper, then added a piece of Blushing Bride ribbon accented with a large brad.  Texture was applied to the icing using the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder and the Big Shot machine.  To give it a bit more sparkle I spritzed it with shimmer paint made into a mist.  The cherry received a dusting of dazzling diamonds and then I assembled the cupcake.  Before adhering to the card front with dimensionals, I used my colour spritzer tool to add some light speckling in Blushing Bride and Concord Crush.  This card is easy to make and lots of fun to give.  There are many other variations possible with this stamp and this technique.
